The Convention Centre of Cambrils Park Sport Village has welcomed the presentation of the fifth edition of Campus Melcior Mauri Costa Daurada. The Camp will take place from the 28th to the 31st of March with more than 80 participating cyclists from Catalonia and the rest of Spain. This years’ edition counts on the presence of Roberto Hera as a guest cyclist, who has won the Vuelta a España (Tour of Spain) four times and once the Volta Catalunya. Melcior Mauri, former professional cyclist which lends his name to the Camp; Jaume Rué, General Manager of Cycling Costa Daurada; Joan Antón, Accommodation Manager of Cambrils Park Sport Village; and Josep María Vallès, councillor for sports at Cambril’s City Council have taken part in the presentation session.
The Camp counts on the technical management’s collaboration of Malcior Mauri. It is aimed at amateur cyclists who want to share and spend four days full of cycling with the most renowned former professionals in an environment with top-level services and facilities. It is a four-days event that puts together professional and former professional cyclists with bike touring. The event counts on Cambrils Park Sport Village as the nerve centre and the official accommodation centre. During Melcior Mauri Camp there will be three days of routes where participants will be divided in groups that will count on a guide and an assistance car.
This year there will be some changes and, to keep enjoying and discovering the entire area of the Costa Daurada, some different routes have been planned. On Friday the route will go thru Coll de la Batalla, going up to Montral and arriving at la Mussara. Saturday will be the day the longest route will take place. Participants will discover the Priorat and will go around Montsant’s Natural Park. Before going back to Cambrils, participants will stop at Cornudella to recover and taste the area’s cuisine. On the last day the Camp will take place at Camí de Gavaldà, a mountain pass with rock and sand landscape.
Apart from cycling routes, there are some technical talks prepared that will take place at the Convention Centre and at el Fòrum. During the day, activities for cyclists’ companions willing to know the area will be organized.
The privileged location of Cambrils Park Sport Village along with the quality of the roads of the area, the low traffic and the mild Mediterranean climate, is what makes the Resort ideal to organize events like this one.
