CC Chevigny and why 4 years of stages at Cambrils Park Sport Village
13.06.2018

It is almost a tradition. Every year, CC Chevigny lands in Cambrils to prepare physically and mentally for the challenges of the new season. Laurent Mars, manager of the club, together with a technical team of 10 people, are in charge of guiding more than 80 boys between 15 and 25 years old towards the achievement of their professional dream. It should not be an easy task, so we wonder how they do it and what they value most about their stay at Cambrils Park Sport Village.

1. The rest

Any athlete who aspires to be a professional must have a strict routine in terms of training, rest and food.

“For us, the best thing of the stages at Cambrils Park is the quality of the rest. In other stages we have done in Spain we have stayed at hotels, but we usually coincide with holiday clients who want to enjoy nightlife, which alters our sleep hours. Enjoying a calm environment designed for athletes is essential for our team", says Laurent.

2. The respect of the drivers

“Here people have a lot of respect for cyclists. When you are on the road, you can feel drivers taking their time to overtake the cyclist in a safe way, without taking risks. And that, when you are responsible for young people, is very reassuring.

He adds: "Parents trust us with the safety of their children. Some of them are beginners and still do not control the discipline on the road. For that reason, I feel great happiness every day when we all arrive without having had any kind of problem”.

3. The WIFI

When we are talking about millennials, having a good Wi-Fi connection is fundamental. According to Laurent, the fact that there is open Wi-Fi throughout the Resort means that young cyclists do not feel the need to go out and look for it, and therefore, they are more relaxed and focused on resting after training.

4. The climate

“The climate in Cambrils is good to come to train during the winter months, much better than in Belgium. While it is true that in the south of Spain we could find warmer temperatures, we value more the fact of being accommodated in a Resort where everything is designed for athletes", he says.

Cycling helps young people have a healthier lifestyle

Laurent Mars is not only a cyclist and the manager, in his task of guiding young athletes he must also practice as a psychologist, coach and mediator: "Cycling is a very tough sport, which requires a lot of discipline. Before coming to Cambrils we have been training in Belgium with snow and ice. In fact, you have to be a little crazy to practice this sport", he says laughing.

“Young people who aspire to be professionals must give up other lifestyles, they must learn to live with the team and they must be good people, first. At CC Chevigny we have a motto: 'Education first'. There is life beyond cycling and before rolling they have to be good students”.

For the Belgian club, the academic results are a kind of currency or incentive in their training programs for young cyclists. And they do not hesitate: First education, then the results on the bicycle.

Thank you for trusting Cambrils Sport Village, until next year!
